RELICS SOLO SHOW. LOCAL PROJECT ART SPACE. NYC. 2023.

'Relics', Castañeda’s first solo exhibition, is the introduction to 'Feeddock,' a multi-media project set in a post-human universe. It features decorative avatars in graphic landscapes, using 2D and 3D elements to create bold and colorful imagery influenced by visual symbols, societal structures, and media. The exhibit also includes items from Feeddock Studio, Castañeda's fashion design practice, including hand-painted second-hand items and hand-crafted knitwear designs that promote sustainability through upcycling and slow fashion.

'Relics' is a sub-narrative in the main body of work, Feeddock. It explores the idea that in a post-human universe, objects left behind by humans begin to gain life, forming new worlds. This narrative is depicted through elaborate tapestries and upcycled clothing. The tapestries, made with second-hand materials that Castañeda has owned or regularly uses, show the "sequence of reanimation" that creates these worlds and deconstructs the way products and their industries interpret us as consumers. They have a digitally printed base and are texturally enhanced with painting and collage.

By reflecting their own experiences as a marginalized individual in their work, Castañeda hopes to challenge viewers to question and move beyond societal structures and binaries. Their art invites viewers to embrace their own unique identities and values while considering alternate worlds.
